Obituary

Dorothy Jean Rhodaback Kostelac, 99, of Brownstown, Fayette City, joined the Lord on May 19, 2025, due to complications of Alzheimer’s disease. A daughter of the late Steve and Emma Webb Rhodaback, Dorothy was born at home on May 2, 1926, in the same home in which she passed. A lifelong resident of Brownstown, she was the oldest living member of First Christian Church of Fayette City, where she served as Sunday School treasurer and trustee. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her late husband, Thomas Kostelac; one brother, Gerald Rhodaback; one sister, Mavis Bertiaux; and an infant brother. She is survived by one brother-in-law, Nicholas Kostelac of Monessen; nieces and nephew, Marion (Shaw) Tootsey of Frederick, Md., Patricia (Shaw) Maxwell of Hanover, Pa., nephew, James Shaw of Frankford, Del., Diane (George) Shaw of Fayette City, Matthew Kostelac and Susan Turkovich of Bedford, Pa., and Yvette Kostelac of Carlisle, Pa.; great-nieces and great-nephews, Laura Lees of Baltimore, Md., Beth Hogg of Taneytown, Md., Mark Tootsey of Mount Airy, Md., Frank Maxwell of Fairfield, Pa., G. Scott Shaw of Columbia, Md., Julie (Shaw) Muro of Frederick, Md., John Shaw of Greensburg, Pa., Jason Shaw of Belle Vernon and Ryan Shaw of Fayette City; and many greatgreat and great-great-great nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 6, 2025, at ELEY-MCCRORY FUNERAL HOME INC., 334 Main St., Fayette City. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2025, at First Christian Church, 316 Second St., Fayette City, PA 15438, with the retired Rev. Wayne Boring officiating. Interment will follow in the Belle Vernon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Christian Church in memory of Dorothy J. Kostelac.
