Dorothy Kretchman Beggs,76,of the Baptist Nursing Center,Mt. Lebanon,formerly of Belle Vernon,died Wednesday,Oct.3,1990,at 6:20 a.m.in the nursing center. She was born March 24,1914,in Pittsburgh,a daughter of the late Norbert and Clara Louise Groff Kretchman. Mrs. Beggs had resided in the Belle Vernon area for 50 years before moving into the nursing center in August 1988. A member of the First Presbyterian Church of Belle Vernon,she had served as treasurer of the Belle Vernon Library Board for many years. Mrs. Beggs obtained a nursing degree from Magee Hospital,Pittsburgh,in 1935. She served many years as a volunteer for the American Cancer Society. In addition to her parents,she was preceded in death by her husband,Dr. John L. Beggs,July 4,1984. Survivors include two sons, Dr. Robert A. Beggs of Akron,Ohio,and Dr. William J. Beggs,Ph.D.,of Mt. Lebanon;one sister,Mrs.Herbert (Mary Louise) Dent of Fort Lauderdale,Fla.;and six grandchildren. Friends will be received Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Leonard J. Parzynski Funeral Home,626 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon. Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. David Blaine Cable,pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church of Johnstown,officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers,the family suggests memorial donations to the Belle Vernon Library. The Leonard J. Parzynski Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
