Dorothy Ann Turnbull, 86, of Wick Haven, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday August 3, 2021 in Tender Loving Care Personal Care Home. A daughter of the late Herbert J. and Dorothy Mae Sexton Hawk, she was born in Monessen on December 11, 1934. Dorothy formerly resided in Monessen and Belle Vernon until she moved to Wick Haven in 1961. She was employed at the former Fox Grocery Company for 13 years where she was an advocate for and received equal pay for women. Dorothy graduated from Monessen High School in 1952 and served on the reunion committee. She was a member of the teamster union where she served as a committee member. Dorothy served as a deaconess at Harmony Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Gospel Alliance Church in Rostraver Township where she was active in starting a bereavement group. Dorothy also started the Star Junction PTO where she formerly served as president and was a volunteer at Amedysis Hospice where she was nominated for Volunteer of the Year. Being a 20 year survivor of Breast Cancer, she served as an advocate to Pittsburgh Medical Students concerning breast cancer. Dorothy had been a facilitator for both breast cancer and bereavement groups. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. Turnbull in 1995 and her grandson Justin in 1981. Survivors of her beloved family include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Scott Turnbull of Greensburg and Tom (MaryBeth) Turnbull of Brentwood; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy (Jim) Kelly and Mary Beth (Matt) Sweeney all of Belle Vernon; one brother, Mark Hawk of Westerly, RI; one sister, Kathleen Snyder of Mifflintown; 12 much loved grandchildren, Corey Turnbull, Culin Gelbum, Elyse Turnbull, twins Ethan and Cole Turnbull, Lauren Kelly, Ryan Kelly, Kaytlin Kelly, Matthew Sweeney, Zachary Sweeney, Thomas Turnbull, and Rachel Turnbull and was so very proud of them all. A Celebration of life will be held in Gospel Alliance Church, 1011 Fells Church Road, Rostraver Twp. on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 11 A.M.
