Obituary

Donald Sweitzer, 87, formerly of Lynnwood, Belle Vernon, passed away 1:05 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011, at Woodcliff Manor, Bethel Park. Born Aug. 31, 1924, in Elco, he was the son of the late Martin and Mae Harrison Sweitzer. Donald was a World War II Army veteran. Prior to his retirement in 1985, Donald was employed for 38 years with the General Motors Corp. in Dravosburg in the tool and dye department. He was a skilled carpenter who enjoyed woodworking as a hobby. He is survived by his wife, Cecelia Walkush Sweitzer, to whom he was married 63 years, a son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Kathryn Sweitzer, of Brentwood, two daughters and a son-in-law, Donna Blasko, of Belle Vernon, and Celeste and Sonny Amaya, of Friendswood, Texas, five grandchildren, Amy Helfrich, Timothy Sweitzer, Keely McIntyre, Alexis Didier and Ariene Amaya, six great grandchildren, brother-in-law Melvin 'Bucky' Walkush, of Belle Vernon, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by a sister, Eleanor Meese. Visitation will be held 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, followed by a 6 p.m. funeral service with the Rev. Msgr. Roger A. Statnick, pastor of St. Sebastian R.C. Church, officiating at the LEONARD J. PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME, family owned and operated, 626 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, (724) 929-6183. Family interment will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made in memory of Donald Sweitzer to Harmony Hospice, Bridgeville.
