Donald R. O'Toole Sr., 84, of North Belle Vernon, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2015, at 10:35 a.m. at his home. Born March 6, 1930, in Monessen, he was the son of the late Thomas and Catherine E. Crowe O'Toole. A resident of North Belle Vernon for the past 60 years, Mr. O'Toole was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church, was a retired railroad engineer for Monessen South Western Railroad, and was a veteran of the Korean war where he served in the U.S. Army. He was a member and past grand knight of the Belle Vernon Knights of Columbus Council 3026, was instrumental in their programs and bowling league, member, past president and man of the year from the former St. Sebastian Holy Name Society, member of the Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659, was an avid Pirates fan. After his retirement, he worked for PIC and the Leonard J. Parzynski Funeral Home. He is survived by his wife, Teresa Mendicino O'Toole to whom he was married for 60 years; three sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Lisa O'Toole of Murrysville, Gordon and Phoebe O'Toole of Lake Wylie, S.C., and James and Janine O'Toole of York; daughter-in-law, Kathleen "Kitty" O'Toole of Belle Vernon; three sisters, Alice Tressler of Baden, Patty Ostetrico of Carroll Township, and Gert Zoretich of Bentleyville; 11 grandchildren, Jeremiah O'Toole, Sean O'Toole and wife, Brittany, Kelly O'Toole, Brianna O'Toole, Emily O'Toole, Jessica O'Toole, Ryan O'Toole, Matthew O'Toole, Burke O'Toole, Molly O'Toole, and Season West; two great-grandchildren, Callie West and Browning West; and a personal family friend, Rev. John Foriska. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald O'Toole Jr.; six brothers; an infant brother, Michael, Martin, John, Thomas, Robert, and Joey O'Toole; three sisters, Ellen Glaspey, Catherine Bernardcheck and Josephine Riaggotti. Visitation will be held 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATIONS, Family Owned and Operated, 626 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, 724-929-6183. Prayer service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home followed by funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. at St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Msgr. Roger A. Statnick and Rev. John Foriska as co-celebrants. Interment will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Members of St. Sebastian parish will pray the rosary for the departed soul of Donald O'Toole 3 p.m. Tuesday. The Belle Vernon Knights of Columbus will conduct services at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and the Belle Vernon American Legion at 7 p.m., both in the funeral home.
