Funeral services will be held Saturday;Aug.18;1962;for Dennis Dayner;19;of 445 Hill St.;Belle Vernon;who sustained fatal injuries in a 70-foot fall from a church steeple Tuesday;Aug.15;1962. The popular youth was helping
his father paint the Centerville
Methodist Church on old Route 40
when he apparently slipped from a scaffold.
The young man plunged 70 feet
to the ground; striking an aluminum canopy over the front entrance of the church and landing
on the cement walk. The canopy
was only slightly damaged.
Fellow workmen rushed to
young Dayner’s aid. He was taken to Browvnsville General Hospital where he was pronounced
dead at 10:03 a.m. of multiple
injuries.
Employed by his father; a
painting contractor; the youth was
engaged in painting the frame
superstructure of the steeple.
What caused the fall has not been ascertained. The scaffold; itself;
was intact.
Young Dayner was a 1960 graduate of Bellmar High School. During the past summer;he has worked with his father. He was a member of the North Belle Vernon Volunteer Fire Dept.and Auxiliary Police;and was an assistant scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 541. He belonged to St.Sebastian R.C.Church. Surviving are his parents;Mr.and Mrs.Howard Dayner;a brother;Dean;his grandparents;Mr.and Mrs.Frank Dayner of Belle Vernon;and Mr.and Mrs.Charles Bush of Bentleyville. Friends will be received at the Harold R.Toner Funeral Home;Belle Vernon;after 3 p.m.Thursday.Visiting hours will then be from 1 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. Requiem Mass at St.Sebastian R.C.Church;Belle Vernon;Saturday;August 18;at 9:30 a.m.in charge of The Rev.Andrew King;pastor.
