Obituary

After a prolonged illness,De. David Edwin Sloan,70,leading Charleroi physician and former president of the Charleroi-Monessen Hospital staff,died Tuesday night,January 8,1935 at 10:45 o'clock at his apartment,530 Fallowfield avenue.  Death was ascribed to angini pectoris,a hardening of the heart muscles,and complications arising from prolonged illness over a period of six months or more. He suffered from a heart condition and a nervous condition for several months.  The fatal attack nevertheless was a community shock.Dr. Sloan was one of Charleroi's oldest physicians,coming here shortly after he matriculated the old Western Pennsylvania Medical College,now the University of Pittsburgh Medical School in 1893.  Since the nineties he has practiced medicine in Charleroi and was one of the upper Monongahela Valley's best known physicians. Until about one year ago he was the industrial surgeon for the Pittsburgh Steel Company.  In his many years service in this capicity he served a wide field and practiced both to Charleroi and Monessen clinteles. Born September 1,1860 in Westmoreland county he was a member of pioneer stock and enjoyed a wide personal acquaintance with many of the district's older families. He was a member of Charleroi Elks lodge.  He is survived by one daughter,Mrs. Norman I.Adams of New Haven,Conn.,two grandsons and two sisters,Mrs.John Steele of New Alexandria and Miss Nan Sloan of Greensburg.  Funeral services for Dr. David Edwin Sloan will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at his late residence.  Rev. D. Earl Daniels,pastor of the First Presbyterian Church,will be in charge.  Interment in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
