The sudden death of D.W. Hays,aged 74 years,at his home in 817 1/2 Washington avenue early Monday,February 8,1937 was a shock to family members and friends. The aged man had been in apparent good health,and his passing was entirely unexpected. Upon arising as usual Friday morning at 6:30 o'clock he was taken suddenly ill and before the arrival of the family physician death had occurred. Mr. Hays and his wife,Mrs. Martha E. Hays were planning to celebrate their 51st wedding anniversary on February 18th. He was born May 3,1863,in Greene County, Pennsylvania. He had resided in Charleroi for a number of years. Surviving besides his wife are four sons, Reed who made his home with his parents,Earl,Harry and Ellis;two daughters, Mrs. William (Anna) Simpson of North Charleroi and Mrs. Samuel (Lillian) Fox of Speers;ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held in the Speers Methodist Church,at 2:30 on Wednesday afternoon. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
