Obituary

Dallas Alexander Lea,65,of 941 Grant St.,Monessen,died Monday,Sept.22,1997,in Mon Valley Hospital,Carroll Township. He was the son of the late Ferry and Sylvia V.Wright Lea. A 1950 graduate of Monessen High School,Mr.Lea entered the U.S.Army and served as a corporal in the Korean War. He was decorated with the Korean service medal,the National Defense service medal,good conduct medal and the Meritorious Unit Accomodation with the 293rd Quartermaster Regiment Company. Mr.Lea earned a bachelor of science degree in education from California University of Pennsylvania and a master's degree in education from Duquesne University. He was employed with the Pittsburgh Public Schools for 30 years as an educator and principal. Survivors include one son,Dallas A.Lea II,M.D.,of Houston,Texas,two brothers,William Lea of Monessen and Warren (Mitchell) Lea of Waldorf,Md.,a friend,Maxine Searcy with whom he resided,and four sisters-in-law,Evelyn Lea of Monessen,Ida Mae Lea of Washingon,Pa.,Marilyn Lea of Waldorf,Md.,and Gladys Lea of McKees Rocks. In addition to his parents,he was preceded in death by two brothers,Ferry Lewis Lea Jr.and Edward F.Lea Sr. Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.in the Union Baptist Church,670 McMahon Ave.,Monessen,where services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m.with the Rev.Richard Wingfield officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Mr.Lea is also survived by several nieces,nephews and cousins. The Beverly C.Draper Funeral Home,Monessen,is in charge of arrangements.
