Curtis Mitchell; 89; of North Belle Vernon; died Friday; Nov. 16; 2007; at 4:47 p.m. in Presbyterian SeniorCare; Washington; Pa. He was born April 25; 1918; in Belle Vernon; a son of the late Roy and Bertha Mae Oliphant Mitchell. He was a lifelong resident of North Belle Vernon. Mr. Mitchell was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church in Belle Vernon and was retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel; Monessen plant; where he was employed as a ladle crane operator. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Mitchell was a member of Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659 and the Charleroi Archery Club. He is survived by his wife; Melba Pateri Mitchell; to whom he would have been married 64 years on Nov. 24; 2007; one daughter and son-in-law; Karen and George Magatz; of Monessen; one son and daughter-in-law; Richard and Susan Mitchell; of Belle Vernon; one brother and sister-in-law; Don and Judy Mitchell; of Belle Vernon; one sister and brother-in-law; Dorothy and Lew Farkas; of Charleroi; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by one son; Curtis L. Mitchell; two brothers; Roy and Ray Mitchell; and three sisters; Agnes Kulka; Esther Kistler and Florence Fagan. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the LEONARD J. PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME; family owned and operated; 626 Broad Ave.; Belle Vernon (724-929-6183). A prayer service will be held Monday; Nov. 19; at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home; followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Sebastian R.C. Church. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Members of St. Sebastian Church will pray the rosary on Sunday at 3 p.m. for the departed soul of Curtis Mitchell; and members of Belle Vernon American Legion 659 will conduct services at 7:30 p.m.; both in the funeral home.
