Obituary

Curtis James Bethem, 72, formerly of Belle Vernon, died unexpectedly Thursday, April 17, 1997, at his home in Montgomery, Texas. Born March 6, 1925, in Charleroi, he was a son of the late Catherine and Jules Bethem. Protestant by faith, he was a 1943 graduate of Charleroi High School. He was retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp., Monessen plant, as superintendent of maintenance. Mr. Bethem was a U.S. Army veteran, having served three years in New Guinea. Survivors include his wife,Patricia, a daughter Kimberly Balogna of Aspinwall,two granddaughters,Melinda and Tabatha,three brothers,Ronald and Gordon of Belle Vernon and Darwin of Charleroi,and two sisters,Elaine Binkney of Charleroi and Norma Herst of Gainsville,Ga. In addition to his parents,he was preceded in death by a brother,Leonard D.Bethem,in 1951. Funeral services will be in Texas. The Conro Funeral Home in Conro,Texas,is in charge of arrangements.
