A well-known retired Belle Vernon barbaer and former member of the North Belle Vernon School Board; Conrad Metz;
died at the age of 90 at his home on Monday;Februar 13;1956.
Born in Hesse Darmstadt; Germany on Nov. 28; 1865; Mr. Metz
came to Belle Vernon at the age
of 16 where he opened a barber
shop. He was in business there
for 54 years until his retirement in
1936.
He resided at 314 Fayette street.
He had served as a member of
the Board of the Belle Vernon Cemetery for 30 years and was active
in the First Presbyterian Church
and held memberships in the following organizations:
Belle Vernon Lodge 643; F. and
A. M.; Uniontown Lodge of Perfection; Syria Temple of Pittsburgh and the Monongahela Caravan.
He was preceded in death by
his wife; Jesse; on Feb. 15; 1953
and his daughter; Kathryn; last
April. Kathryn had been a teacher in Monessen public schools for
many years.
Surviving are a brother Wilhelm; in Germany; two nieces;
Ruth Browneller and Mrs. Bonnie Latimore and one nephew;Clair Browneller;all of Belle Vernon. Friends are being received at the late home where funeral services will be held Thursday;February 16;1956;at 2 p.m.in charge of Rev.George Clarke of the First Presbyterian Church. Interment will be in the Belle vernon Cemetery. Masonic services will be held Wednesday at 8 p.m. Charles L. Melenyzer and Shelby D.Ferguson;funeral directors.
