Clifford G.Dickson;a former teacher and veteran athletic coach at two Mon Valley area high schools;died at 5:30 a.m.Friday;May 2;1980;in Monongahela Valley Hospital;Carroll Twp. Mr.Dickson;who was 75;lived at 207 Liberty Ave.in the Lynnwood section of Belle Vernon. He was born in Canonsburg Jan.20;1905;son of the late Alvin and Margaret Beery Dickson. He graduated from Ohio Northern University in 1926 and received a master’s degree form the University of Pittsburgh. He came to Perryopolis as a teacher and basketball and football coach in 1927. He also served in the same capacity at the former Belle Vernon High School from 1930 to 1938. He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Belle Vernon and was a former member of the board of trustees of the church. During World War II;Mr.Dickson served as a field officer for the American Red Cross;being attached to the 11th Armored Division. During that service he received a Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service;the order signed by then President Harry Truman. He also was a member of Sigma Phi Epsioln fraternity while at Ohio Northern. In 1946 he became a buyer for the then Pittsburgh Steel Co.;having retired from the then Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Corp. He also for a brief period operated a sporting good store in North Belle Vernon. Surviving are his widow;Thelma Hull Dickson;one sister;Grace of Dublin;Ohio;and two nephews. Friends are being received from 7 to 9 p.m.Saturday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.Sunday in the Shelby D.Ferguson Funeral Home;700 Broad Ave.;North Belle Vernon. Services will be held in the funeral home Monday with the Rev.Charles LaPlaca;pastor of the First Presbyterian Church;officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The family requests that so desired memorials can be made to Mon Valley Hospital.
