Obituary

Clarence E.Burleigh,49,a veteran employee of The Valley Independent,was found dead of a heart attack Wednesday,March 21,1962,at his home at 607 Marguerite St.in Monessen. He was found by Monessen police who had received a call from his sister,Mrs.Obed (Beatrice) Macer,who stated she had last seen her brother Saturday afternoon. He was a bachelor. Westmoreland County Coroner Stephen D.Yoney,Monessen,pronounced Mr.Burleigh dead at 9:40 this morning. Yoney said he believed death had occurred about 24 hours earlier. Mr.Burleigh,who was born May 3,1913,had been associated with The Independent as a custodian for 32 years. During World War II,he served with the Army Transportation Corps in the European Theatre of Operations. Besides his sister,he is survived by a brother,Dr.Elmer Burleigh of New York. Friends are being received at the Beverly C.Draper Funeral Home in Monessen between hours of 1 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. Funeral services will take place Saturday,March 24,at 11 a.m.in the Wayman A.M.E.Church,Monessen,with the Dr.H.L.Anderson,pastor,officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Beverly C.Draper,funeral director in charge.
