Clara S. Jones, 89, of Belle Vernon, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2015. A daughter of the late William and Clara Springer Jones, she was born in Monessen on April 14, 1926. Clara was a lifelong resident of Belle Vernon. She was an active elder at First Presbyterian Church in Belle Vernon where she also served as choir director, President of Presbyterian Woman’s District, Director of the Hand Bells Choir, President of the Auxiliary of Redstone Highlands, and member of the Sweet Adelines. Clara was one of 34 women selected by the national organization of Presbyterian Women in the Presbyterian Church (USA) to participate in a month-long Global Exchange to Central and Eastern Europe. After traveling to Eastern Europe as a representative, Clara wrote her impressions and made presentations to various organizations within, and outside of, the church. She retired in 1986 from Union National Bank in Pittsburgh where she was Assistant Vice President in Retail Banking. Survivors include three nieces, Karen (Mahatha) Oliver of Waldorf, Md., Melanie (George) Owen of Gambrills, Md., and Kathleen (Steven) Walsh of Stuart, Fla.; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her three brothers, Samuel Jones in 1978, William Jones in 2010, and George Jones in 2014. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 18, 2015, at 11 a.m. in First Presbyterian Church, Belle Vernon with the Rev. Suzanne Currie officiating. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
