Obituary

A seven-year-old boy was instantly killed near the intersection of First Street and Luella Avenue Saturday morning,June 15,1940,at 11:30 o'clock when struck by a milk truck. The boy was Charles Cardinale, son of Mr.and Mrs.Sam Cardinale,of Luella Avenue. The truck said to have been driven by Michael Russell,of Maple Creek, was being used for regular milk deliveries for a locl delivery. The truck had stopped in front of the Lepore home where it had made a delivery. About that time the victim of the accident and Mario Deporte, aged 6,a chum, had been playing together in the street near the Lepore home. A few feet beyond the point where the truck stopped is a mudhole, and it was said the boys had gone there to wash their hands in the water. They are believed to have been directly in front of or under the front of the truck at the time and hidden from view of the driver. It was said the accident occurred about ten feet from the point where the truck last stopped to deliver milk. The driver brought his truck to a stop immediately when he heard a scream. Only the left front wheel had passed over the boy whose head was crushed. Friends will be received at the late home until 9:30 o'clock Tuesday morning when services will be held in the Mother of Sorrows Church, the Reverand Father Panessa officiating. Interment will be made in Charleroi Cemetery. Lawrence Frye, funeral director in charge. (CHARLES WAS MOVED TO BELLE VERNON CEMETERY ON JANUARY 30,1954)
