Charles L. Barthe,born April 4,1927,went to be with God May 20,2012. Chuck graduated with a Master's Degree in Education from West Virginia University specializing in reading. He taught there for several years and in New Jersey,where he developed reading programs still used today. Remaining active in his retirement, Chuck volunteered with Hospice for over 20 years and at the Museum of Arts and Sciences in Daytona. He also ushered at the News Press. Chuck never met a stranger and will be greatly missed. Survivors include his brother,Henry Barthe,of Savannah, GA.;niece,Jean Strong (Keith),of Savannah,GA.;nephew,Wayne Barthe (Carol) of Pittsburgh,Pa.;and significant other of 45 years, Philip Garrett, of Port Orange,Florida. There will be a Memorial Service in Chuck's honor on Saturday,June 16,2012 at 11 AM at the Hospice Care Center Chapel located at 3800 Woodbriar Trail,Port Orange. Donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia County or the Humane Society of Volusia County. Arrangements entrusted to National Cremation & Burial Society,Oviedo,FL. 407-365-1600.
