Charles (Jeff) Smith;80;of 677 McKee Ave.;Monessen;died Saturday;May 20;1989;at his home. He was born in Charleroi March 9;1909;a son of the late Charles Edward and Elsie Ankrum Smith. Mr.Smith was a resident of Monessen for over 30 years;coming from Belle Vernon. He was retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel. He was a first sergeant of the U.S.Army;serving in France;Germany and in the North African Theatre. Additionally he was a nursing assistant at Monongahela Hospital and was a self-employed cement finisher. In addition to his parents;he was preceded in death by his wife;Marye L.Smith in 1981 and one sister;Ella Mae Carter. He is survived by is son;Jeffrey Smith of Monessen;two daughters;Leisa Smith of Monessen and Myrna Garry of Monessen and a devoted son-in-law;Claude Garry;and two grandchildren;Kelly Rae Garry and Kristen Yvonne Smith. Friends will be received Monday from 2 to 9 p.m.at his reisedence at 677 McKee Ave.;Monessen. Services will be held from his residence on Tuesday at 11 a.m.with Rev.Wilbur Hubbard;pastor of the Fellowship Baptist Church;Monessen;officiating. Interment will be in the Belle Vernon Cemetery.
