Charles Herbert Gilbert; 94; of Fairhope; Belle Vernon; died Oct. 29; 2012; at home following a lengthy illness. He was born Aug. 11; 1918; in Filbert; a son of the late Herbert Charles Burd and Anna Mary Stelle. He was one of four children. During his life he worked in the Monessen mill and was a diesel mechanic for numerous garages in the area along with working the Gilbert farm in Perryopolis where he was raised. Charlie was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed gardening; boating and traveling in his camper with his wife; Rita. He is survived his wife; Rita Mae Farquhar Gilbert; three daughters; Edna Mae Maxson and husband; Byrl (Sonny) of Fayette City; Agnes Stasko and husband; Andrew (Sonny) of Belle Vernon; Charlene Duvall of Greensburg; sister; Mary Pearl Burd Wheat of Memphis; Tenn.; grandson; Craig Maxson and wife; Leslie; of Belle Vernon; grandson; Chris Maxson of Fayette City; granddaughter; Nicole Lamer and husband; Adam; of Belle Vernon; granddaughter; Rebecca and Beverly Duvall of Claridge; three great-grandchildren; Zachary; Gavin and Lily Maxson; and best friend and companion; Susie. He was preceded in death by infant daughter; Ruth Gilbert in 1947; two sisters; Elizabeth Hoff and Adelaide Harvey.
