Obituary

Charles Oliphant Sr.,56,of 107 Speer St.,Speers,was killed in a one car accident at 8:15 p.m.Wednesday,Feb.24,1965,on Interstate Route 70 on the Belle Vernon end of the Belle Vernon-Speers bridge in Westmoreland County. A coal miner,Mr.Oliphant was born Nov.14,1909,in Washington Twp.(Fayette County),the son of the late Joseph and Anna Lynch Oliphant. He is survived by his widow,Ellen Burgan Oliphant,two sons,Charles J.of Roscoe,and Larry of Cleveland,Ohio,a daughter,Mrs.Lorraine Vercoe,also of Roscoe,two brothers,Christopher of Fayette City and Joseph of Waynesburg,three sisters,Mrs.Mae Mitchell of Fairhope,Mrs.Violet Mastronicola of Charleroi, Mrs.Agnes Connors of Marin Villa,Fairhope and four grandchildren. Friends are being received at the Howard W.McCrory Funeral Home,Fayette City,where a service will take place Saturday,Feb.27,at 2 p.m.in charge of the Rev.Wendall Paul,pastor of Roscoe Methodist Church. Interment in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Howard W. McCrory,funeral director.
