Obituary

Charles C.Smith Jr.,66,of 1003 Henry St.,Belle Vernon,died Friday,March 11,1988,at 4:45 p.m.,suddenly,in Mon Valley Hospital. He was born Dec.11,1921,in Reivesville,W.Va.,a son of the late Charles C.and Sophia Godowska Smith Sr. He was a life-long member of the Belle Vernon community and was a member of St.Sebastian Roman Catholic Church,Belle Vernon. He was a veteran of World War II,having served with the U.S.Army. He retired in February,1986,from the Lee Norse Co.,Charleroi,where he had been employed as a machinist. During his lifetime,he had been very involved in political activities,and served as mayor of North Belle Vernon from 1970 to 1974. He also served North Belle Vernon as a Justice of the Peace for 20 years. He was a past member of the Constables and Squires Association of Pennsylvania. Surviving are his wife,Della Bochicchio Smith,two sons,Carl J.Smith,of Belle Vernon,and William C.Smith of Belle Vernon,a daughter,Mrs.William (Marlene) Helinski of Belle Vernon,three sisters,Mrs.Margaret Medica,of Pittsubrgh,Mrs.Michael (Frances) Gula,of Pittsburgh,and Mrs. Frank (Clara) Scotch,of California,Pa.,and six grandchildren. Visitation will be at the Leonard J.Parzynski Funeral Home,626 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon,Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A prayer service will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St.Sebastian Roman Catholic Church,Belle Vernon. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Leonard J.Parzynski Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
