Charles C.Smith Jr.;66;of 1003 Henry St.;Belle Vernon;died Friday;March 11;1988;at 4:45 p.m.;suddenly;in Mon Valley Hospital. He was born Dec.11;1921;in Reivesville;W.Va.;a son of the late Charles C.and Sophia Godowska Smith Sr. He was a life-long member of the Belle Vernon community and was a member of St.Sebastian Roman Catholic Church;Belle Vernon. He was a veteran of World War II;having served with the U.S.Army. He retired in February;1986;from the Lee Norse Co.;Charleroi;where he had been employed as a machinist. During his lifetime;he had been very involved in political activities;and served as mayor of North Belle Vernon from 1970 to 1974. He also served North Belle Vernon as a Justice of the Peace for 20 years. He was a past member of the Constables and Squires Association of Pennsylvania. Surviving are his wife;Della Bochicchio Smith;two sons;Carl J.Smith;of Belle Vernon;and William C.Smith of Belle Vernon;a daughter;Mrs.William (Marlene) Helinski of Belle Vernon;three sisters;Mrs.Margaret Medica;of Pittsubrgh;Mrs.Michael (Frances) Gula;of Pittsburgh;and Mrs. Frank (Clara) Scotch;of California;Pa.;and six grandchildren. Visitation will be at the Leonard J.Parzynski Funeral Home;626 Broad Ave.;Belle Vernon;Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A prayer service will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St.Sebastian Roman Catholic Church;Belle Vernon. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Leonard J.Parzynski Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
