Charles Benjamin White; 81; of Brooklyn; N.Y.; formerly of Monessen; departed this life Saturday; Jan. 23; 2010. Born Jan. 31; 1928; in Monessen; he was the son of the late Mary Kate and Phillip White. He was seventh of nine children; eight boys and one girl. In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by a brother; Phillip White; and sister; Anna Ruth Macer. Charles went to public school in Monessen; he was a four letter football player and graduated in the Class of 1947; at Monessen High School. In 1948; he moved to Brooklyn; N.Y.; and enrolled at McAllister School of Embalming in Manhattan. Charles met Marjorie Harris; of Brooklyn; and they were joined in holy matrimony in 1949. He worked at different envelope companies in New York and New Jersey. He was a delegate for Local 292 International Paper Workers Union Convention held at Hotel New Yorker. He wrote a monthly column for the Battalion for Local 292; U.P.A. and C.I.O. until becoming Cutting Foreman. He worked 49 years in the paper line; 35 of those years as foreman. He was a member of St. Ciceil Lodge; Chapter 34 Masonic Order and rose to a 32nd Degree member. Charles leaves behind his wife; Marjorie White; four children; Andrea V. White; Michelle C. White; Charles White Jr.; and Marjorie R. White; five brothers; Scipio White; Luther White; William Henry White; Theodore White; Fred White; and a host of grandchildren; great-grandchildren; other relatives; and friends. Family and friends will be received Wednesday; Feb. 3; from 4 to 8 p.m. in Wayman-Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church; 318 McKee Way; Monessen. An additional viewing will be held in the church on Thursday; Feb. 4; from 10 to 11 a.m.; the hour of service with the Rev. Rhonda Frazier-Higgins officiating.
