Obituary

Charles B. McVay of 142 Lynnwood Ave.,Belle Vernon died Monday,April 24,1961,at 1:45 a.m. in Charleroi-Monessen Hospital.  He had been in declining health. Born in Mingo Junction,he came to Monessen in 1904.  He was employed as a millwright in the Monessen plant of the Pittsburgh Steel Co.until his retirement in 1952. He was oldest active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Monessen. A son,Wayne,preceded his father in death.  He was killed in action in France in 1944 during World War II. Survivors include his wife,Bertha Kraft;three daughters,Mrs. Frank (Mary) McIIravy, Lemont Furnace,Mrs. Paul (Lois) Yeaton,Monessen,Mrs. Thomas (Amelia) Crawford Jr.,Perryopolis;two sons,Joseph,Okmulgee,Okla.,J. Lee,Belle Vernon;a brother,Wilson McVay,Jeannette,eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.  Friends are bieng received at the Rhome Funeral Home,Monessen,where services will be held Wednesday,April 26,at 1:30 p.m.  The Rev. Willis A. Hacker of the First Presbyterain Church,Monessen,will be assisted by the Rev. Lester A. Crum of Evangelical United Brethren Church,Monessen. Interment will follow in Bellle Vernon Cemetery.  Denver Rhome,funeral director.
