Obituary

Charles Alessio, 71, of Rostraver Township, died Friday, April 25, 2008, in Jefferson Regional Medical Center. A son of the late Domenick and Kathryn Skibo Alessio, he was born in Belle Vernon on Jan. 25, 1937. A lifelong resident of Belle Vernon, he was a member of the Church of St. Anne of Rostraver Township, the East Belle Vernon Athletic Club, the Puritan Golf League, both the Pennsylvania State and National Education Associations and a life member of the NRA. Chuck served in the Air Force from 1954 to 1958, graduated from California State Teachers College in 1961, and received his master's degree from West Virginia University in 1963. He served on the Belle Vernon Area School District Board of Education from 1979 to 1987, serving as president in 1982, 1984 and 1985. Chuck taught for the Westmoreland Intermediate Unit 7 in Greensburg and was a holder of American Speech and Hearing Certificate of Clinical Competence. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Kathleen Kay Klein Alessio, three sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law, Eileen and Bob Nagy, of Roscoe, Jay and Joan Klein, of Townville, S.C., and Larry and Linda Klein, of Coatesville, an aunt, Jenny Alessio, of Belle Vernon, and many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon (724-929-5300), www.FergusonFuneralHomeAndCrematory.com. A blessing service will be at 9:15 a.m. Monday in the funeral home, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in the Church of St. Anne with his pastor, Father Ronald L. Simboli, presiding. Entombment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
