Charlene never was a woman to put herself first. She was devoted to her children; family and friends; and she was a woman of God. Charlene Prunty was born Aug. 2; 1946; in Pricedale (Rostraver Township); to the late Matthew and Georgia Lemon. Charlene was a 1964 graduate of Rostraver High School and immediately started work in the dietary department at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh. With her love of helping people; she then worked for 28 years in mental health between the Western Center in Canonsburg and Mayview State Hospital in Bridgeville. Through all her years of employment; she made wonderful friends who were with her every step of the way. Charlene was an active; lifelong member of Antioch Baptist Church in Belle Vernon (Rostraver Township); where she was always seen in the kitchen preparing meals for services or behind the wheel of the van making sure all members were able to make it to church services. Between all the love and support she gave to everyone around; she was an avid fisherwoman; cook; and comforter to her family and friends. After surviving all chances any doctor had given her; Charlene closed her eyes one last time on Thursday; Dec. 11; 2008; in UPMC McKeesport Hospital. In addition to her parents; Charlene was preceded in death by one brother; Clarence Lemon; three sisters; Gerealdine Williamson; Patsy Hawthorne and Carolyn Lemon. She is survived by two daughters and one son; Sherrie Prunty; of Alpharetta; Ga.; and Brenna Avery and Mark (Tami) Prunty; all of West Mifflin; one daughter-in-law; Sonya Forney; of Baltimore; Md.; three grandsons and two granddaughters; Khristian Prunty; Brandon and Tyler Sacco; and MiKayla Prunty; all of West Mifflin; and Mya Forney; of Baltimore; Md.; one sister; Constance Johnson; of Glen Burnie; Md.; her twin brother; Charles Lemon; of Chicago; Ill.; one aunt; Lena Payne; of McKeesport; and the angels who provided care and support through her illness: Keith Jones; her daughter Brenna’s boyfriend; her niece; Trayce Reed; and her best friends; Shelia Brown and Margarette Johnson; and a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; friends; and many other children she treated as sons and daughters. Family and friends will be received Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday; Dec. 16; from 10 to 11 a.m.; the hour of service in Antioch Baptist Church; 945 Henry St.; Belle Vernon; with the Rev. Clifford Carter officiating. Interment will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the BEVERLY C. DRAPER FUNERAL HOME INC.; 608 Sixth St.; Monessen (724-684-6242).
