Cecil William Briggs, 76,of Charleroi,died Tuesday, Aug. 13,1996.at the Humbert Lane Health Care Center,Washington,Pa.,following a six-month illness. Born June 1,1920,in Roscoe,he was a son of the late David and Irene Keegan Briggs. Mr. Briggs was Protestant by faith and was a member of the American Legion Post 22 and the Belgian Club,both of Charleroi,and REAP. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II,serving in the 429th Anti-aircraft Artillery Gun Battery. Mr. Briggs was retired from the Allenport plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel from the Sheet,Electric and Oil Well Tubing Department. He was also the former co-owner of B.B. and B. Billards of Charleroi. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law,Kenneth and Nina Briggs of North Charleroi and Robert and Eileen Briggs of Fayette City;two daughters and one son-in-law,Cecilia and John Overbeay of Columbus,Ohio,and Nancy Briggs of Charleroi;eight grandsons,three great-grandsons and one great-grandaughter;two brothers,Fred Briggs and David Briggs,both of Charleroi;and four sisters, Harriet Lorenzi of Fayette City,Geraldine Stasicha,Ella Nichols and Shirley Simmons,all of Charleroi. In addition to his parents,he was preceded in death by his wife,Betty Faranto Briggs;his stepmother,Margaret Steinmille Briggs,one brother, Jack Briggs and one sister, Virginia Isabello. Friends will be received Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Carl J. Spallino Funeral Home,819 Fallowfield Ave.,Charleroi. Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Don Gillenwater officiating. Interment will follow at the Belle Vernon Cemetery. The American Legion Post 22 of Charleroi will have a service at the funeral home on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. The Carl J. Spallino Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
