One fatality resulted indirectly from the Belle Vernon free bridge celebration, when Katherine, the 4 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac F. Henry, died from injuries received from being struck by an automobile on Wednesday,July 20,1910. The little girl died, following convulsions lasting several hours,at 6:30 Thursday morning,July 21,1910. About 9 o'clock Wednesday morning James Patterson,a prominent Fayette City contractor who lives near Belle Vernon was coming in his Buick automobile from his home to participate in the automobile parade at Belle Vernon. On State street,Belle Vernon,he noticed a little girl playing and tooted his horn, then when she did not seem to pay any attention, slowed down and made a detour to prevent hitting her. Just as the machine approached, she dodged directly in front and was struck. At the time the little girl did not seem injured, and although somewhat frightened, when taken home recovered her spirits to enjoy the parade near noon when it passed the Henry home. She was sitting on the front porch at that time.Shortly after noon she lapsed into unconciousness, and later was seized with convulsions, which lasted for about six hours. She then lapsed again into unconciousness, and remained in that state until Thursay morning when she died. Drs. N.T.Lohman and G.E.Nichole from Belle Vernon attended her. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Henry, prominent residents of Belle Vernon. Mr. Henry is boss cutter at the Glass factory. Mr. Patternson is also a resident of the town and is greatly worried over the accident. The parents have the sympathy of a sorrowing community in their sad loss.
