Obituary

Carl Sobek,72,of Belle Vernon,Lynnwood,died Friday,Oct.9,1998,in Mon Valley Hospital after a short illness. He was born on Oct.14,1925,in Fayette City,a son of the late Mike and Mary Ciba Sobek. Mr.Sobek was a member of Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church of Fayette City,and a veteran of World War II,having served with the U.S.Army in the European Theatre. He was a member of Brightwell-Daugherty Post 484 American Legion of Fayette City and American Slavonic Citizens Club of Fayette City. He was a retired employee of (Niemeyer) Anderson Oldsmobile Dealership in Elizabeth. Survivors include his wife of 50 years,Irene Belczyk,a son and daughter-in-law,Carl W.and Darla (Astle) Sobek of Hermitage,three granddaughters,Jordan,Chelsea and Alexandra Sobek,and a sister and brother-in-law,Ann and Anthony Semanick of Fayette City. In addition to his parents,he was preceded in death by four brothers,Joseph,Larry,Thaddeus (Ted) and an infant brother,and by s sister,Stella Errigo. Friends will be received Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Eley/McCrory Funeral Home Inc.,Main Street,Fayette City,and Monday until 9:30 a.m.,when a prayer service will be held. Funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. in the Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church,Fayette City,with the Rev.Leonard McAlpin as celebrant. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. A parish wake service will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. in the funeral home,followed by services at 7:30 p.m. conducted by the Brightwell-Daughtery Post 484 American Legion. The Eley/McCrory Funeral Home Inc.is in charge of arrangements.
