Obituary

Carl L. Milsom,81,of 142 Lynnwood Ave.,Belle Vernon,died Wednesday,Feb. 15,1989,at Monongahela Valley Hospital,Carroll Twp.  He was born in Cheswick, Pa.,on Jan. 1,1908,a son of the late Edward J.and Hattie (Haldin) Milsom. Mr. Milsom had been a Monessen resident for many years before moving to Pricedale,then moving to Rostraver Township in 1942 and then to Belle Vernon in 1970. He had been employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue,Inheritance Tax Division,for 19 1/2 years as an assessor.  He was a Monessen merchant from 1944 to 1980,having owned Milsom's Appliances. Mr. Milsom was a former director of the Monessen Chamber of Commerce and a member of Company D in Monessen and had been active in Civil Defense work during the war.  He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church,where he had served as head usher for many years; Monessen Lodge 638 Free and Accepted Masons,where he had served as trustee for many years and had been selected Mason of the Year in 1986; the Mon Valley Commandery;University of Pitt Golden Panthers; Knights of Pythias;and also a board membrr of Rainbow Girls.He is survived by his wife, Doris L. (Cook) Milsom,with whom he had celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary; two daughters, Mrs. Melvin (Jean) Bane of North Charleroi and Mrs. Donald (Marilyn) Williams of Rostraver Township; two grandchidlren, Mrs. Kenneth (Colleen) Buchanan and Mrs. Tim (Patty) Bish; and six great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Rhome Funeral Home,Inc.,1209 Grand Blvd.,Monessen,Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Masonic services will be held Friday at 7:30 p.m.  Funeral services will be held in the chapel of the funeral home on Saturday at noon with Pastor Ronald Schlak of St. Paul's Church,Monessen,and also Earl Lehman of First Baptist Church,Monessen, officiating.  Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Contributions are being accepted through the funeral home for Rostraver Ambulance Service,St. Paul's Church and First Baptist Church.  The Rhome Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
