Obituary

Bonny A. Lancaster Varega, 73, of Carroll Township, formerly of Broad Avenue, North Belle Vernon, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at 8:51 a.m. in Mon Valley Hospital, Carroll Township. Born Jan. 4, 1929, in Gibsonton, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Winnifred James Lancaster. Mrs. Varega was a resident of Monongahela for the past five years, having previously resided in North Belle Vernon for 42 years. She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Monessen. Mrs. Varega was retired from the Belle Vernon Area School District, where she worked as a cafeteria cook and was a member and past president of the former Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659 Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John Thomas Jack and Aldaleah Varega of Perryopolis, two daughters and sons-in-law, Gwen and Ronald Halkias of Brandon, Fla., and Beverly and Michael Tokar of Carroll Township, one brother, Thomas Lancaster, and two sisters, Beverly Mitchell and Ardyth Rowe, all of Gibsonton, four grandchildren, Shawn Varega of Hollywood, Calif., and Rhiannon, Michael and Malory Tokar, all of Carroll Township. She was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Varega, on March 13, 1983. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the LEONARD J. PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME, family owned and operated, 626 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon. Services will be held Friday at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Scott Koeppen of First Baptist Church, Monessen, and the Rev. Dr. Allen Lee of Washington, Pa., officiating. Interment will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
