Marion Public School at Fairhope will be closed Wednesday afternoon,October 7,1936, out of respect for the late Miss Bertha Bauer,36 year old school teacher,who committed suicide at her home on Monday,October 5,1936. Services will be held at the home of the deceased woman's parents,Mr.and Mrs. Frank Bauer,in Fairhope,at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday,October 7,1936. There will be no inquest into the death of Miss Bauer,who died at her home Monday afternoon at 12:40 after drinking a quantity of disinfectant. Mental strain induced by ill health after she underwent a major operation in the spring is thought to have lead to the act. She taught fourth grade at the Marion Public School for 16 years and was a Sunday school instructor at the Marion Presbyterian Church. Because of illness,Miss Bauer received a leave of absence from the school after teaching two weeks of this semester,but she had planned to return to school this week. Mrs. Iva Povlish had been appointed to fill her place. School was dismissed Monday afternoon after the tragedy. Besides her parents,she is survived by four sisters and four brothers. They are: Mrs. Richard Wilson,of Fairhope,Mrs. George Haywood,of Sharpsburg,Mrs. Louis Dinsmore,of Washingtonville,Ohio,Mrs. Fred Beazell,of Charleroi,William Bauer,of Toronto,Ohio,Edward Bauer,of Fayette City.Robert Bauer,of Dawson and Frank Bauer,of Greenwood,Ohio.
