Obituary

Arthur (Buddy) Turner,63,chief of Westmoreland County detectives the past 20 years,died in Mercy Hospital,Pittsburgh,Saturday,June 13,1959,after an extended illness. Prominent in Westmoreland County Democratic affairs for many years,Mr.Turner had served as an assistant detective chief for 10 years before he was appointed chief. He lived in Pricedale,near Belle Vernon,all his life. He was a member of the Charleroi Elks lodge,Monessen Eagles,Belle Vernon Moose lodge,the Pullman Club of Westmoreland County and many law enforcement organizations. He first was appointed an assistant detective chief while Victor Bouton was district attorney. He became chief during the administration of Charles D.Copeland and continued through the administrations of Edward F.Bauer,John M.O'Connell,L.Alexander Sculco and Earl S.Keim,all of who later became judges,and Richard E.McCormick,the present district attorney. He is survived by his wife,Maila Tauber Turner,three sons,Raymond H.,Greensburg,James P.and George P.,of Pricedale,two daughters,Mrs.Chester (Uba) Dale of West Newton,Mrs.James (Eileen) Huber of Pricedale,one brother,Michael of North Huntingdon Township,two sisters,Mrs.Robert Frost of Belle Vernon and Mrs.George Gillingham of Webster,and nine grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Ferguson Funeral Home. Services will be held there Tuesday,June 16,1959,at 3 p.,m.in charge of Rev.Frederick C.Burchell of the Belle Vernon Church of the Nazarene,and Rev.Paul Sweitzer of the Pricedale Union Church. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Shelby D.Ferguson is the funeral director.
