Mrs. Araminta Corwin;101;died yesterday at 3:30 p.m. at her home at 437 Speer St.;Belle Vernon. Believed to be Belle Vernon’s oldest resident;Mrs.Corwin died just three hours after the death of Gen.Dwight D.Eisenhower;from which she received a letter of congratulations when she celebrated her 100th birthday in 1967. Born in Belle Vernon Sept.17;1867;she spent her entire life here;and until a few years ago maintained her own home. Since then she has resided with her son and daughter-in-law;Mr. and Mrs. Austin M. Corwin. Active until just a few months ago;she continued to make short trips by automobile;and attended monthly meetings of the Edna Marston Bible class of the First Baptist Church;which she helped to organize many years ago. She and her husband at one time owned and operated a bakery on Main St.;Belle Vernon;and much of Belle Vernon’s early history was recorded in her remarkable memory. She was a charter member of the First Baptist Church of Belle Vernon and the Edna Marston Bible Class;and Order Eastern Star;Chapter 196;Belle Vernon. She was preceded in death by her husband;Edgar J.Corwin;Jan.1;1955. Survivors are two sons;Fred W.Corwin of Fontana;Calif.;Austin M.Corwin;one daughter;Mrs.Hugh (Ruby) Prichard;St.Petersburg;Fla.;seven grandchildren;14 great-grandchildren;and five great-great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Shelby D.Ferguson Funeral Home;Belle Vernon;after 7 p.m.;Saturday. Services will be held there Monday;March 31;at 1:30 p.m. in charge of the Rev. Charles Colas;pastor of the First Baptist Church of Belle Vernon;and the Rev. Nick Joseph;a grandson of Mrs.Corwin;and pastor of the Tri Village Church of Christ;Pataskaia;Ohio. Interment;Belle Vernon Cemetery. Shelby D.Ferguson of Belle Vernon is the funeral director.
