Obituary

Aquilla Barnes of 418 Ridge Ave.,Monessen,died Monday,Oct.17,1983,at 1:40 a.m. in Mon Valley Hospital,Carroll Township following a lingering illness. He was 85. Mr.Barnes was born Sept.6,1898,in Artemas,Pa.,a son of the late David and Frances Smith Barnes. A Monessen resident for many years,he was a carpenter by trade. Mr.Barnes was a member of the First Christian Church of Monessen,where he served as a Trustee and Elder Emerilus. In addition to his parents,he was preceded in death by his wife,Ethel Pearl Barnes in December,1978. Survivors include one daughter,Mrs.Chester (Gladys) Lear of Venice,Fla.,three sons,Glenn Barnes of Fairhope,Wayne Barnes of Monessen and the Rev.Edward G.Barnes of Maroa,Ill.,16 grandchildren,13 great-grandchildren,and one brother,Robert W.Barnes of Flinstone,Md. Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Rhome Funeral Home Inc.,1209 Grand Blvd.,Monessen,where services will be held Wednesday,Oct.19,at 11 a.m. with the Rev.Conrad G.Auel Jr.officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Rhome Funeral Home,Inc.is in charge of arrangements.
