Obituary

Anna Louise Gnip Black, 77, of Fallowfield Township, passed away peacefully at her home after a short battle with cancer on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2006. She was born Oct. 17, 1928, in Monessen, a daughter of the late Andrew P. and Anna Cheklos Gnip. Anna graduated from Charleroi High School and after marrying her husband Robert on March 20, 1950, was a homemaker in Charleroi, Belle Vernon and Tampa, Fla., returning to Charleroi in 1962. Anna was an avid sports fan, always watching a baseball, basketball, football game or a horse race, particularly the Triple Crown races. She relished spending time with her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly, her children, other family and friends. She is survived by daughter, Carole Vankirk, of Charleroi, with whom she shared her home, and grandson, Chris Henry and wife Amie, of Greenfield, Wis., son, Robert L. Black Jr. and wife Kim and granddaughter Kaitlyn, of West Mifflin, daughter, Leslie Black and grandchildren, Julianne, Louis and Kerri, of Monongahela, and son, William D. Black and fiancee Ashleth Bertram and her daughter Mariah, of Fishers, Ind., one brother, Michael Gnip, of Uniontown, and her loving nephews, Andrew Sowinsky and Charles Buddy Arrow, of Browns Mills, N.J., niece, Kathy Perky, of Greensburg, along with several other nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Black Sr., a sister, Mary Arrow Baran, a brother, Johnny Gnip, and a son-in-law, Scott Vankirk. Friends will be received Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the SCHROCK-HOGAN FUNERAL HOME and CREMATION SERVICES INC., (www.schrock-hogan.com), 226 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 5 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. From this Valley they say you are going, we will miss your bright eyes and sweet smile, for they say you are taking the sunshine that has brightened our path for awhile. Anna will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
