Obituary

Death claimed one more of our aged citizens on Sunday, August 18,1907 when Ananias Griffith gave up his lease on life,aged 80 years,6 Months and 11 days.  He had been ill for several weeks with stomach trouble.  Mr.Griffith was born in Lancashire, England,Feb.7,1827,anD came to America with his parents when he was only three years old.  He grew up to manhood near Lynn's mill on Redstone creek and when his adopted country called him,he was ready to serve.  Oct.22,1862,he enlisted in Co.G.22nd Pennsylvania Cavalry (Ringgold)  as saddler and on July 19,1865,he was mustered out with his company.   He came back from the war and settled in this vicinity and has resided in Belle Vernon for years.  He was married and to the couple were born these children: Adam,John W.,Grant and Anna B.,of Belle Vernon,and Mrs. Lydia A. Leonard,of Allenport.  Mrs. Griffith has been dead for several years.  Funeral services were held on Monday at 2 o'clock conducted by Rev.Cherry,interment later in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
