Alphonse H. Mathieu,77,of 500 Third St.,Monessen,died Tuesday May 10,1988, at his home. Born Sept. 6,1910, in Province DuGarde, France, he was the son of the late Hippolite and Victoria Rieu Mathier. Mr. Mathieu had been employed in the electrical maintenance department of Irvin Works prior to his retirement in 1972. He was a member of St. Leonard's Roman Catholic Church,Monessen,and was a charter member and past president of the Monessen French Club. He was also a member of the Mon Valley Association of Retired Steelworkers and of various bowling leagues. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Sophia Fehr Danko Mathieu,in 1962,and a brother,Maurice in 1982. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. George (Sophia) Stimaker, with whom he made his home and two grandchildren,Mary Lunn and George. Friends will be received Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Rhome Funeral Home Inc.,1209 Grand Blvd.,Monessen. A Prayer service will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Leonard's Roman Catholic Church,Monessen, with Fr. John Euker officiating. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Rhome Funeral Home Inc.
