Alfred O.Mazzie Sr.;80;of Charleroi;died Monday;Jan.19;1998;in Mon Valley Hospital;Carroll Township. Mr.Mazzie was born Oct.3;1917;in Fallowfield Township;the son of the late Ermindo and Julia (Rosini) Checchi. A retired steelworker at the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Allenport Plant;he was a member of Mary;Mother of the Church Parish;V.F.W. Post 167;American Legion Post 22 and the Italia Unita Club;all of Charleroi. He was also a veteran of the United States Army during World War II. He is survived by his wife;Rose Rossano Mazzie;a daughter and son-in-law;Judy and Martin Beichner of Washington;Pa.;one son and daughter-in-law;Alfred and Nancy Mazzie Jr.of Monessen;two sisters;Mrs.Donald (Elvera) Bello of Brockton;Mass.;and Florence Bartolozzi of Hobesound;Fla.;and four grandchildren;Mark and Danielle Beichner;Christopher Aiello and Lisa Cole. He was preceded in death by two brothers;Robert Checchi and Roger Checchi. Friends will be received on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Schrock-Hogan Funeral Home Inc. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 10 a.m.in Mary;Mother of the Church;7th and Washington Ave.;Charleroi. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The VFW Post 167 of Charleroi will conduct services at 7:30 p.m.Thursday in the funeral home. The Schrock-Hogan Funeral Home Inc.is in charge of arrangements.
