Obituary

Alex F. Butchie Basits Jr., 75, of Belle Vernon, Washington Township, died Monday, May 21, 2012, at 7:12 a.m. at Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born Dec. 1, 1936, in Belle Vernon, he was the son of the late Alex F. Basits Sr., and Evelyn G. Chiplasky Basits. Mr. Basits was a resident of Washington Township and was Protestant by faith. Mr. Basits was a retired school bus driver from the Belle Vernon Area School District, a veteran, having served in the U.S. Air Force, and member of the Belle Vernon Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 209, Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659 and the East Belle Vernon Athletic Assoc. He was a very dedicated husband and father and loved his family greatly. He also enjoyed trips to the casinos. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Fryske Basits, to whom he would have been married 45 years on June 9, son, Lex Basits, of Chengdu, China, daughter, Susan Basits, of Pittsburgh, sister, Mary Lou Brewer, of Belle Vernon, and three grandchildren, Shayne, Patrick and John. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Laura Ann Aiello, and a sister, Betty Jane Simpson. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. in the PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATIONS, Family Owned and Operated, 626 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, (724) 929-6183. Services will be held Thursday in Parzynski Funeral Home and Cremations at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Donald A. Bowers, of the First Christian Church of Belle Vernon, officiating. The Belle Vernon American Legion will conduct services Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. and the Belle Vernon Moose at 7:45 p.m., both in the funeral home.
