Obituary

One day after passing his defense job physical examination with 100 per cent,Alden O.D.Speers,39,descent of the founder of Speers borough,died of a heart attack at his home there on Tuesday,October 7,1941.at 2:30 p.m.. Mr.Speers was planning in preparation to leave for a government plane manufacturing plant in Texas. He had been in splendid health and was complimented upon his condition following the rigid physical examination. Alden Otis Davis Speers,son of the late Mr.and Mrs.Van L.Speers and grandson of Noah Speers,founder of the borough which bears that familiar name,was one of the district's best known men. Recently he was approved for airplane manufacturing work at a Texas assembly post and was to go on to this job immediately. He received the call earlier this week and had made all preparations to leave. He is survived by his wife,Catherine Bonsch Speers,two daughters,Rebecca Ella and Elaine,two sons,Van Alden and James Phillip Speers,four brothers,Dr.Stephen M.Speers of Belle Vernon,Ray F.Speers of Sandusky,Ohio,John Speers of Sandusky,and S.Ward Speers of Speers and two sisters,Mrs.William Lorimer of Ormand Beach,Fla.,and Mrs.D.A.Schoerke of Petrolia,Pa. The remains may be viewed at the late home where funeral services will be held Friday afternoon,October 10,1941,at 2:30 o'clock in charge of Reverend Earl W.Lighthall,pastor of the Speers Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
