Obituary

Albert Peaches Crawley, 77, of Monessen, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005, following a lengthy illness at Presbyterian Medical Center in Washington, Pa. He was born in Monessen on Feb. 27, 1927, a son of the late Clarence and Mary Ethel Payne Crawley. He was employed by the Monessen Street Department for over 30 years. Mr. Crawley was Baptist by faith, belonging to Union Baptist Church in Monessen. He was a life member of the Mon Valley Chapter of the NAACP. Mr. Crawley will always be remembered as an avid fan of all sports and loved his Monessen football and basketball teams. He was loved dearly by the teams and fans as well. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Manuel Crawley, a sister, Frances Carter, and a beloved brother-in-law, DuBoise H. Carter. He will be deeply missed by his surviving brothers, Samuel Crawley and wife Clarise of San Diego, Calif., and Harry Crawley of Plantation, Fla., two sisters, Fannie Burroughs and Constance Crawley of Monessen, a sister-in-law, Majurial Crawley of Washington, D.C., 13 nieces and nephews, 22 great-nieces and nephews, 17 great-great-nieces and nephews, and one great-great-great-nephew, and a host of cousins and friends. Visitation will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in Union Baptist Church, 670 McMahon Ave., Monessen, and Saturday, Jan. 22, until 11 a.m., at which time funeral services will begin with Pastor Verton Dean of Union Baptist Church officiating. Elder Dwane C.N. Towler of Oklahoma City, Okla., Mr. Crawley's great-nephew, will deliver the eulogy. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by the WILLIAM R. TAYLOR FUNERAL HOME, 645 McMahon Ave., Monessen.
