Obituary

Albert Figler, 80, of Monessen, died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, in Jefferson Medical Center. He was born March 3, 1922, in Monessen, a son of the late John and Susan Gondola Figlar. He was a retired teacher, having taught in the Pittsburgh Public School System. He was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned bachelor of arts and masters of science degrees. He was a member of St. John the Divine Russian Orthodox Church. He served as a captain with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of the Lions Clubs, Elks 773, American Legion Post 28, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1190, all of Monessen, as well as the Pennsylvania State Education Association, and the National Education Association. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, John Figlar. Survivors include his wife, Gilda Bartolozzi Figler, one son and daughter-in-law, Robert A. and Mary Liu Figler of Akron, Ohio, one daughter and son-in-law, Karen A. and Douglas Goimarac of Hudson, Ohio, two grandchildren, Ryan Douglas and Courtney Leigh Goimarac, one sister and brother-in-law, Anne and Peter (Bud) Roman of Monessen, and nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the ROBERT A. BILLICK FUNERAL HOME INC., Grand Boulevard and Marion Avenue, Monessen, where a blessing service will be held Monday at 12:30 p.m., followed by funeral services at 1 p.m. in St. John the Divine Russian Orthodox Church with the Very Rev. John Horosky officiating. Entombment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Parastas services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
