Obituary

Willie Lee Hewitt,31,one of Monessen High School's finest all around athletes, died suddenly of a heart attack on Sunday,Nov. 15,1953.  Mr. Hewittt won seven varsity letters during his sports career at Monessen High School,starring in football,basketball and baseball.  He graduated in 1941. For the past two seasons,Mr. Hewitt managed the Monessen Ozark baseball team to the Mon Valley League championship. The deceased enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps on Mar. 20,1943 and was discharged in 1945. He had been employed in te fabric department of the local Pittsburgh Steel Co. plant and was a member of the House Committee of the Order of Elks,No. 697. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lucille Hewitt;a daughter, Helen,at home;his parents,Mr.and Mrs. Jeff Hewitt,of Monessen;four brothers,Robert and Jeff,of Cleveland,Ohio,Clifford of Monessen,and Thomas,with the U.S.Marines Corps,stationed at Camp LeJeune,N.C.;two sisters,Irene, of Cleveland,and Martha Kate,at home. Friends are being received at the Draper Funeral Home,Sixth street from 1 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday,Nov. 19,at 11 a.m. from the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church,with Rev. E. Archie officiating.  Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery.  Beverly C. Draper,funeral director.
