Obituary

Curtis P.Gates Jr.,51,died at 3 a.m.Sunday,Sept.18,1966,at the home of his mother,Mrs.Hulda (Smock) Gates of 801 Rostraver St.,Monessen. He had been in ill health since April. Mr.Gates was employed at the open hearth lab of the Monessen plant of Pittsburgh Steel Co. He was a member of the Slovak Club,No.2 Fireman's Club and Hungarian Club,all of Monessen. He was born in Monessen and attended Monessen schools. His father,Curtis Sr.,died in 1958. Surviving besides his mother are his widow,Elizabeth (Igoe) Gates,a son,Alvin R.of Monessen,six step-daughters,Mrs.Gloria Hoenberger and Mrs.Alice Eishman of Warren,Ohio,Mrs.Ruth Clark and Mrs.Emma Lou Bettinelli of Donora,Mrs.Elizabeth Lengel and Mary Jane Igoe of Monessen,two step-sons,David and Robert Igoe of Belle Vernon,two brothers,Earl and Roy of Belle Vernon. Friends will be received after 7 p.m. Sept 19 at the at the H.Denver Rhome Funeral Home,Monessen. Visiting hours will then be 2 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. Service there Wednesday,Sept.21,at 1:30 p.m.with the Rev.Joseph C.Rial,pastor of Monessen's First Methodist Church,officiating. Interment,Belle Vernon Cemetery. H.Denver Rhome,funeral director.
