Robert (Scotty) Gibb,former president of Local 1391, United Steelworkers of America,died at Charleroi-Monessen Hospital at 1:10 a.m. on Saturday, April 24,1954 after a long illness. Mr. Gibb, 52, made his home at 334 Oneida street. Born in Scotland,the deceased came to Monessen in 1923. He served as a heater in the glavanizing department at the Page Steel & Wire Division of the American Chain & Cable Co. for the next 31 years. President of the production workers local in 1943 and 1946,Mr. Gibb was vice-president of Local 1391 when he died. He also was chairman of the grievance committee,zone greivance committeeman,chairman of the local's Political Action Committee. He also was past president of the Monongahela Trades Association. A member of the First Methodist Church,Mr. Gibb served on the official board of the church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Esther Petty Gibb;a daughter, Mrs. John (Ruth) Duvall,a son,Robert Gibb, Jr.,who is serving with the Navy in Washington, D.C. and a brother, Daniel Gibb of Belle Vernon. Friends will be received at the Rhome Funeral Home,McKee avenue beginning Saturday evening. Funeral home visiting hours are from 1 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 26,at 2 p.m.,with Dr. Allan J. Howes,pastor of the First Methodist Church officiating.
