Thomas A.Flanagan of 410 Parkway avenue;Monessen;died in the Charleroi-Monessen Hospital;January 23;1957;at 11:25 a.m. He was a member of St.Leonard’s R.C.Church;the Holy name Society and the Elks lodge of Monessen. He was a director of the First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Monessen and was retired from the Page Steel and Wire plant of the American Chain and Cable Co.;on August 1;1951;where he was employed as Manager and Safety Director. He came to Monessen in 1919 from the Aliquippa Works of the Jones and Laughlin Steel Corporation and became superintendent of the Specialty Mill at Pages. In 1934 he became employment manager and in 1950;superintendent of watchmen at the plant. He was active in public and civic affairs;was president of the Monessen Chamber of Commerce;and headed Monessen Red Cross drives. He is survived by his wife;Mary Flanagan;two sons;Francis of Roscoe;Thomas J.;of Belle Vernon;one daughter;Mrs.Edward (Anna Mary) Vogel of Indiana;Pa.;and five grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Edwin Melenyzer Funeral Home;Monessen. Requiem high mass will be sung in St.Leonard’s Church;Thursday;January 31;at 10 a.m. by Rev.Martin O’Toole;and interment will follow in Belle Vernon cemetery. Shelby D.Ferguson and Edwin Melenyzer are the funeral directors.
