Obituary

Samuel Destefano,72,of 1274 Rostraver St.,Monessen,died Sunday,Dec.24,1972,at 7:20 p.m. in Mercy Hospital,Pittsburgh,after a short illness. Born in Monessen,he attended Monessen schools and for many years owned and operated Sammy's Smoke Shop on Sixth St. He was a veteran of World War I,having served with the U.S.Army. He was a member of St.Leonard's R.C.Church,Monessen,and American Legion Post 28,Monessen. He was preceded in death by three brothers,Joseph in 1931,Albert in 1963 and Ralph in 1972. Surviving are his widow,Ruth Isenberg Destefano,one daughter,Mrs.Bud (Rita) Henson at home,one son,Samuel O.(Sheik) of Monessen,two sisters,Mrs.Margaret Caterino of Monessen and Mrs.Rose Laneve of Newell,W.Va.,two brothers,John of Bethel Park and James of Monessen,five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Friends will be received after 7 p.m. Tuesday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Rhome Funeral Home,Monessen,where a prayer service will be Thursday,Dec.28,at 9:30 a.m.followed by Mass at 10 a.m.at St.Leonard's R.C.Church,Monessen,with the Rev.Henry Dinicco,pastor,officiating. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Rhome funeral directors.
