Samuel Destefano;72;of 1274 Rostraver St.;Monessen;died Sunday;Dec.24;1972;at 7:20 p.m. in Mercy Hospital;Pittsburgh;after a short illness. Born in Monessen;he attended Monessen schools and for many years owned and operated Sammy’s Smoke Shop on Sixth St. He was a veteran of World War I;having served with the U.S.Army. He was a member of St.Leonard’s R.C.Church;Monessen;and American Legion Post 28;Monessen. He was preceded in death by three brothers;Joseph in 1931;Albert in 1963 and Ralph in 1972. Surviving are his widow;Ruth Isenberg Destefano;one daughter;Mrs.Bud (Rita) Henson at home;one son;Samuel O.(Sheik) of Monessen;two sisters;Mrs.Margaret Caterino of Monessen and Mrs.Rose Laneve of Newell;W.Va.;two brothers;John of Bethel Park and James of Monessen;five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Friends will be received after 7 p.m. Tuesday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Rhome Funeral Home;Monessen;where a prayer service will be Thursday;Dec.28;at 9:30 a.m.followed by Mass at 10 a.m.at St.Leonard’s R.C.Church;Monessen;with the Rev.Henry Dinicco;pastor;officiating.
