Obituary

Elio Checchi,58,of 509 South 14th St.,Monessen,died suddenly Sunday,March 25,1973 at 7:40 a.m.in the Allenport Works of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp.of an apparent heart attack. He was a member of St.Leonard R.C.Church,Monessen,and a life member of the Belle Vernon Fire Department. He had served as captain,lieutenant and trustee with the fire company and remained an active member even after moving to Monessen from Belle Vernon nine years ago. Mr.Checchi was a member of Garibaldi Lodge,Dunlevy and Belle Vernon American Legion. He was a veteran of World War II,serving in the U.S.Army,and worked as gang leader in the construction department at Allenport. Surviving are his widow,Elizabeth Cmar Checchi,one stepson,Charles R.Kline of Smithton,one stepdaughter,Mrs.Donald (Carol) Keller of Monessen,two brothers,Elmo Checchi of Charleroi and Edward Checchi of Orlando,Fla.,five sisters,Mrs.Eleanora Bucchianeri of Dunlevy,Mrs.Ray Haywood of St.Cloud,Fla.,Mrs.Clair Bussard of New Bethlehem,Mrs.Robert Jacobs of Dunlevy and Mrs.Kenneth Goldsby of Pensacola,Fla.,and four grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Ferguson Funeral Home,Belle Vernon,after 7 p.m.Monday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 10 p.m.Tuesday. Rosary will be recited Tuesday at 9 p.m. Prayers will be said at 9:15 a.m.Wednesday at the funeral home followed by Mass of Resurrection at 10 a.m.in St.Leonard R.C.Church,Monessen,with the Rev.Henry P.Dinicco officiating. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Shelby D.Ferguson,funeral director,in charge.
