Obituary

John U.(Brownie) Biddle,69,of 2 Washington Dr.,Monessen,died Monday,May 15,1961,at 10:55 p.m.in the Charleroi-Monessen Hospital. Born in West Elizabeth,Dec.6,1891,he had lived most of his life in Monessen. He had worked at the Monessen Plant of Pittsburgh Steel Co.for 40 years as a soaking pit crane operator before retiring in 1956. He was a member of the First Baptist Church,Monessen. A veteran of World War I,he was a member of Charleroi Barracks 350 World War I Veterans. Surviving are his widow,Ora Sickels Biddle,two sons,Lloyd of Eldora and John of Belle Vernon,two daughters,Mrs.John (Jean) Shook of Monessen and Mrs.Harry (Lillian) Fairley of Monessen,three brothers,Benjamin of Tarentum,Albert of West Elizabeth and Joseph of Monessen,a sister,Mrs.George (Mazie) Parker of Belle,W.V.,9 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Friends are being received at the Edwin Melenyzer Funeral Home,262 Donner Ave.,Monessen,from 1 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. Funeral services will be held from the funeral home on Friday,May 19,at 1:30 p.m. The Rev.Allen Herman,pastor of First Baptist Church,Monessen,will officiate. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Edwin Melenyzer,funeral director.
