Mercedes Luciani Agostini,age 75 years of 1310 Graham Ave., Monessen,died Saturday,January 15,1977 while visiting her family in Apahelm, California. She was born in Italy and had been a resident of Monessen most of her life. She was preceded in death by twin sisters,Lena Mori in 1966 and Yolanda Orselli in 1951 and a brother, Louie Luciani in 1947. She was a member of St.Paul's Lutheran Church of Monessen,The Pythian Sisters of Monessen,and the Dames of Malta of Monongahela. She was a former Chairman of the Republican Party of Monessen and currently was serving as a committee woman. She was a member of the American Federation of Human Rights and was past president and presently secretary of the North Italian Political Assn. She had served in this area as Local Registrar of Vital Statistics for eight years,retiring in 1960. She is survived by her husband, Phillip C. Agostini;a daughter,Mrs. Ned (Betty) Stancanto of Monessen;two sons, Roy Agostini of Belle Vernon,and Angela Agostini of Anaheim,Calif.; five grandchildren;four great-grandchildren,three sisters,Mrs. Rose Lanciotti of Clairton,Pa.,Mrs. Theresa Cruciani of Chicago,Ill. and Mrs. Ermenia Vecchione of Monessen;a brother,Basil Luciani of Monessen. Friends will be received in the Rhome Funeral Home Inc.,1209 Grand Ave.,Monessen Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm.,where services will be conducted on Thursday in the funeral home chapel at 10 a.m.with Rev. Gordon P. Ray,pastor of St. Paul'sLutheran Church,Monessen,officiating. Interment in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund of St.Paul's Lutheran Church,Monessen,through the funeral home.
